The district of Champawat was constituted in the year 1997. The river Ramganga acts as a border between Champawat and Pithoragarh in north while Jabgura and Pannar rivers in south and west acts as a border between Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Almora districts simultaneously. The long chain of mountain in south-western region acts as a border between the district Champawat and Nainital district. It is important from the defence point of view as in the east Kali river acts the international border between Nepal and India. Champawat is situated 1,615 M amsl. Champawat, once the capital of the rulers of the Chand dynasty, is famous for its natural beauty and well known temples. The ancient fort, now houses headquarters of the Tehsil office. A historical spot, Champawat has many well-known temples of high artistic value. Champawat is municipally administered through Nagar Panchayat.

The nearest airport for Champawat is Naini Saini, Pithoragarh (80 km), while The nearest operational airport is at Pant Nagar, Udham Singh Nagar district. The nearest rail-head head for Champawat is Tanakpur at a distance of 75 km. While, by road Champawat is well connected by road form Nainital (233 km), Haldwani (193 km), Pithoragarh (75 km) and Tanakpur (75 km). Thus, Champawat is well approachable by state bus transport/taxi services.

DESCRIPTION OF CLUSTERS AND SELECTED VILLAGES

The one cluster in Champawat district comprises of  Dungri Fartiyal, Forti, Pancheshwar, Devidhura and Reetha Sahib is located on Devidura- Lohaghat road within an area of 80 kms.

Tourists found moving on the road Devidura- Lohaghat to reach tourist distinations like Reetha Sahib, Mayawati Ashram, Devidhura temple, Lohaghat etc. There is no lodging and boarding facilities accept in Lohaghat or Champawat. No one is found operating stay home facility in this area. The distance of Dungri Fartiyal, Forti, Pancheshwar, Devidhura and Reetha Sahib from Lohaghat are 7 km, 4 km, 42 km, 60 km and 44 km respectively.
