Situated at the confluence of rivers Saryu and Gomti, the holy township of Bageshwar, which is municipally administered through Nagar Palika Parishad; also revered as the pious land associated with Lord Sadashiva, the redeemer of all sins. As the Puranasstate, this undoubtedly is a place capable of liberating one from the eternal bondage of births & deaths. With the east and west flanked by the Bhileshwar and Nileshwar mountains and surrounded by SurajKund in the north and Agni Kund in the south, this land of Lord Shankar is of great religious, historic and political significance.
The district of Bageshwar is located in the northern parts of province of Uttarakhand. The location of the township of Bageshwar, the headquarter of the district is accessible by road at about 180 km & 186 km from nearest rail-heads of Kathgodam and Haldwani respectively; and 153 km from Nainital, 447 km from Haridwar, and 502 km from state capital Dehradun.

DESCRIPTION OF CLUSTERS AND SELECTED VILLAGES

Cluster-1: Sama Cluster

A - The Sama cluster comprised of Sama, Ratirkoti, Kimu, Liti and Badi Panyali village located 51 km far from district headquarter Bageshwar in Kumaon Region.  The cluster villages are spread over about 15 -20 km from each other.  The average elevation of cluster  ranges from 1600 to 2000 meter above sea level. Generally the cluster has a sub-temperate to temperate climate, which remains pleasant throughout the year. The maximum temperature recorded in the proposed working area is 32 °C. Temperature descends to below 0°C in December –January and the villages receives snow fall during winter. The area is blessed with splendid view of snow-bound peaks of Himalayas, and scenic valleys, dense forests protected by the communities and the government. The area represents the rich floral diversity with a good variety of birds and wild animals. The cluster villages are on the route to Namik and Hiramani Glacier where many nature lovers, trekkers visit each and every year.

B - Suppi village is located in another valley at a distance of 52 km from Bageshwar and about 50 km from the Sama cluster. The geographical setting of the village is similar to the Sama cluster. Tourists visiting Pindari Glacier stay or passed through the Suppi village. To some extent limited staying and food facilities developed by the villagers over there.
